It’s Not Always About Who Has the Best Photos

Picking a photographer is kind of like dating. You’re looking for someone who understands you, makes you feel comfortable, and knows how to bring out your best side. Someone who will get you lasting images that shape how the world sees you (or your brand).

I’m going to let you in a few secrets, so you know how to smell and avoid a potential mismatched creative relationship.

1. Don’t Get Fooled by Pretty Pictures

Most galleries look shiny online. But scroll deeper:

• Do the photos feel authentic?

• Do people look like themselves or just IG clones?

• Do the photos convey emotions? Do they make you wish you could be in front of the lens too?

If the answer’s no, keep swiping.

2. Strategy Over Snapshots

The right photographer isn’t just snapping random angles; they’re thinking about where your photos will live:

• Website headers?

• Instagram grids?

• LinkedIn profiles?

• Maybe even a movie billboard or Vogue magazine (dream big!)

A good photographer plans for usage, not just aesthetics.

3. Vibes Matter (a Lot)

This one’s underrated. You could hire the “best” photographer, but if you don’t vibe with them, it’s a waste of time and resources. Photoshoots can feel vulnerable, and the wrong energy makes it worse. Find someone who hypes you up, keeps it light, and knows when to take control.

4. Professionalism Is a Must

This one is a no-brainer. You want someone who:

• Uses clear and detailed contracts (no sketchy deals), that protect you and them at the same time. And take your time to read everything because the longer the contracts the most likely there’s a catch (as I like to tell my wife)

• Has clear pricing (no hidden “editing fees”)

• Delivers when they say they will (your inbox should never feel like a ghost town)

• Respects your time: They show up for you so you can show off the BEST you!

Confidence in their process means confidence in your photos.

5. No need to go too far

If you’re local, use it to your advantage. A local photographer knows:

• The murals that haven’t been overdone to death

• How to dodge Florida’s “surprise showers”

• Which spots look amazing at golden hour (without the crowds)

• Exactly what type of area matches your personality.

That local knowledge = photos that feel original, not copy-paste. In my humble opinion, no two photoshoots should be similar.

There has something that clearly screams this is exactly YOU when you share your photos.

Find Your Photo Match

Choosing the right photographer for you or your brand is about more than clicking a shutter. It’s about trust, chemistry, and a shared vision.

So, whether you’re an entrepreneur building your empire, a content creator growing your influence, or just someone who’s tired of unflattering selfies, your photographer should make you feel seen, confident, and unforgettable.
